I enjoyed meeting the people in in his IPS class because it was filled with different kinds of personality. It was also interesting to encounter what they spent their time doing in the the class period.
It was fairly challenging to edit the audio because the verbal ticks were slurred together so that after I would try to take it out, it ended up sounding choppy, so I had to leave them. Rydell also ended up talking really fast or had a lot of pauses in between what he was saying. It was hard to figure out how I would get to go to his IPS class, because it was first hour and I have US History that hour.
If I could go back I'd have him explain more and calm down so he didn't talk so fast. And I would have made more trips to LHS so I could get more pictures and different activities that they did.

Adopt-a-Reporter : Reaction
I read The Girl in the Window: part one (The Feral Child) by Lane DeGregory.
As reading through it I remembered parts that were stated about the conditions that the almost seven year old was in, but Lane's writing was way more descriptive and gave you a real vivid picture of it all. Her use of similes were unique and made each step and process that went on the day that the police went to the house understandable. For example when talking about the officer picking Danielle up from the moldy mattress that she lay on, Lane wrote "When he bent to lift her, she yelped like a lamb." It showed the struggle. Her writing made all of your emotions go in gear, the sadness, and the anger of situation, the outrage that you felt toward the family and the outrage and sadness of those at the house actually viewing the situation. She does a great job of making you feel, and more aware of the reality of the terrible things that go on around us that go unnoticed and want to be more alert.

1 in 1000 - Proposal
Rydell Adams Blann:
A soccer player at LHS that takes a class working with students that have special needs.
I chose this person because I believe it is interesting that a "jock" takes a class to work with people that have special needs; it doesn't fit the stereotype. I think it's a good thing that he is doing, and hopefully by informing people it will encourage them to do something like it.
10 Q's:
1- How did you hear about the class?
2- What made you want to take the class?
3- What do you do in the class/activities?
4- What would you like to get out of the class?
5- So far, is that class what you expected it would be?
6- What are you're most memorable moments?
7- What have you learned so far?
8- What connections have you made, have you grown attached to anyone?
9- Will you pursue beyond and after this class to get involved?
10- Could you see yourself choosing to do something like this as a career choice?

Current Event - Google 13th Birthday
It was recently googles 13th birthday. This is worthiness because it reminds you how long it has been around and how far technology has come thus far. It has a high impact rate because it is used by billions of people. And very often, it is the worlds most used search engine on the worldwide web. In 2010 they had a revenue of 29.321 billion.
The new thing made by google, that is starting to trend is google+. It is getting the attention of some facebook users and switching which social network they use. Some wish that it becomes the "new" facebook.

Current Event - Texting & Driving
This topic is news worthiness because you can almost guarantee that everywhere you go through out the day people are using technology like cellphones to communicate with people, so the number of people this impacts is huge. A Wireless survey from 2010 said that 285 million Americans are mobile subscribers, making that more than 91 percent of the total population. This will always be relevant whether of not in the future the technology or the way we communicate changes; we will always have some way to communicate with each other. Also with people becoming less impatient to wait till they are done driving to read the text they just received and possibly replying to it, it is coming a safety issue. I would say that each time I'm driving I see at least one person texting while operating a vehicle, if not more. So by informing people that police are now on the look out, it might make people think twice before picking up that phone, and realizing that it probably isn't anything urgent or that important worth the possibility of getting into a wreck.
Douglas County is starting to crack down on drivers that are texting. Officers were given the "okay" to ticket people texting while driving at the beginning of this year. Since then officers have only given eight tickets for texting and driving. In those cases 3/4 of them were given after a wreck, where the driver admitted to texting right before the crash.
As of last week, it is reporter there were 15 tickets given out. Some states have gone with a strategy of ticketing more so, to get the point across. Josh Kauffman, a spokesman for the Illinois Department of Transportation says “We feel it’s been successful in getting the word out,”. In the state of Illinois the number of tickets and warnings given out for texting were over 900, in 2010.

Freedom vs Safety
Our freedoms are there for a reason. They are our protection and safety from being harmed for our beliefs or anything else of that matter. There are times when things are said that you might not like and wish that the people saying it, could not, or they should be punished for it. But with something that is majority a good thing, there are usually a few minor bad things that come with it. "You can't have your cake, and eat it too".
We can not expect everyone to think the same way, so we need to allow people to be themselves and be comfortable with being who they are around other people with out being judged. And if we all do respect one others thoughts then there should be peace/safety.

9/11
Knowing the total effect of what happened, and understanding that it was not just a couple of plane crashes that took down a few buildings, would not be possible for me if it were not documented with photographs and videos. In 2001 I was in first grade and have no recollection of 9/11 so the event would not be significant.
In this particular case the only way you could go overboard on the photographs you took is if it were all of human guts or decapitated people. Showing a few dead bodies out of the hundreds of pictures they took only shows the reality of the setting and the truth of the surroundings you would see if you were there on that day.
So if there were no photographs or videos showing me what happened that day I would still to this day not have the full knowledge of this tragedy, the photographers capturing the event is what makes us remember.

Current Event- Motorcycle Accident
On Wednesday 8/31 there was a crash between a motorcycle and van. It is at the moment debatable about which one is to "blame" for the wreck, but it is known that the man on the motorcycle died.
I have heard that it was the motorcyclist that caused it, from weaving in-and-out of lanes. But depending on who you ask, I also heard it was the person in the van that did not see them, but it came from a source that knew the motorcyclist so I would say that, that information is not very credible.
But I'm sure whether or not who caused the accident that motorcyclist will be more careful and vehicle drivers will be more cautious and alert to motorcyclist.

Adopt-a-Reporter
I selected Lane DeGregory who is writer in the St. Pertersburg Times. In 2009, she won Pulitzer Prize for her writing "The Girl In The Window." Which was about a young girl that was almost seven years old that was neglected and kept in one room that was infested with roaches, and she could not talk nor could she feed herself. I picked Lane because I remember seeing the girl on the news and how terrible the condition of the room was left in and how fragile the girl looked. They discovered she had the skills of a baby aging from six months to two years old.

5 Freedoms
The FIVE freedoms of the 1st Amendment:
The freedom of- Speech
Press
Assembly (protest)
Petition
Religion
Best one of my choice:
The one that stands out and that I use the most would be the freedom of speech and coming in very close at second place would be freedom of religion. Talking is how humans communicate between one another. To share ideas, think of solutions, inform people. In this day in age it might not always be spoken but read in a text or message but using any of the many different options, communicating is how we do about almost everything. I know for a fact from experiences that there are times when people do not share the same opinion. From experience I also learned that it is not unusual because not one pair of people think the complete same. Now if we did not have the right to speak our minds then things could get complicated and I could end up in trouble for saying "I love this song" if the person next to me absolutely hated it.
Being in high school and learning the history of our ancestors I can see how this law or right to speak our minds is very vital to us. I know this because back when we did not have the freedom of speech people were killed for not thinking the way others did. The others, usually being the majority which is why they gained power and the vote of the people and were allowed to use such irrational ways in torturing and killing these people for not believing in what the majority of them did.
As far as why I believe they decided to group these five together in the First Amendment goes, I'm positive it had to be because of what similarities they all had in common. They all connected and went hand-and-hand with one other.
